You have to try this healthy viral yogurt cheesecake recipe! A high protein macro friendly twist on the Japanese yogurt cheesecake that’s low fat, low calorie and perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Okay you guys, I was not expecting this to turn out this good! A high protein macro friendly twist on the viral Japanese yogurt cheesecake that is healthy and actually tastes good?!

It seems like everyone’s social media (Instagram and TikTok) feeds have been flooded with the viral Japanese Yogurt Cheesecake-even my husband asked me to make it after seeing it pop up so many times! So, naturally, I had to create my own version. I was a little skeptical about plain tangy yogurt with biscoff cookies, so I turned it into a 3 ingredient variation with protein powder in the yogurt!

The result? Totally worth the hype!

Unbelievably creamy, cheesecake-like texture, and with an unbeatable nutrition label! It’s sugar-free, low fat, and packed with protein. This recipe was so good that my husband has already asked for more versions, and they are definitely coming (just bought Oreos specifically for something special!).

Why You Will Love This Recipe

  • Packed with Protein: This viral Greek yogurt cheesecake uses a generous amount of protein powder to significantly boost its nutritional value!
  • Easy No-Bake Method: No oven required for the cheesecake itself! Just mix, layer, and chill.
  • Sugar-Free & Low Calorie: By using protein powder for sweetness and Greek yogurt as the base, you get all the indulgence without the added sugars or excessive calories.
  • Authentic “Cheesecake” Feel: This yogurt cheesecake works because the crackers (or cookies) absorb liquid moisture from the yogurt portion and help it thicken into a cheesecake texture.
  • Perfect for Breakfast or Dessert: This Greek yogurt breakfast cheesecake is so balanced, you can enjoy it any time of day!

Ingredients for High Protein Japanese Yogurt Cheesecake

  • Non-fat Greek Yogurt: The creamy, protein-rich base for our Japanese yogurt cheesecake.
    • Substitutions: You can use Skyr or any thick plain yogurt. Coconut yogurt is great if you need a dairy free option. Different yogurt flavors will also work!
  • Vanilla Protein Powder (Whey-Casein): Adds sweetness, vanilla flavor, and protein. A whey-casein blend gives the best texture.
    • Substitutions: Use a peanut butter or caramel flavor will be lovely too.
  • Unflavored Protein Powder (Whey): Boosts protein further without altering the flavor; this is optional. Here is the one I use.
    • Substitutions: If your vanilla protein is not too sweet, you can add extra vanilla protein instead of this. Or just leave it out.
  • Graham Crackers: For the crunchy ‘base’.
    • Substitutions: Use gluten-free graham crackers, or Biscoff or Speculoos cookies.

Is Japanese Yogurt Cheesecake Healthier?

Absolutely! While the viral trend is already lighter than a standard New York cheesecake, this specific Japanese yogurt cheesecake is significantly healthier because we use non-fat Greek yogurt as the base and sweeten it with protein powder. Cut out the excess fat and carbs while packing in a massive protein punch, making this a truly macro-friendly treat that you can actually eat for breakfast!

Instructions: How to Make Viral Greek Yogurt Breakfast Cheesecake

  1. Mix the Filling: In a dish or meal prep container, whisk the Greek yogurt together with the vanilla and unflavored protein powders until completely smooth and creamy. Ensure there are no lumps of powder left. Note: If you decided to swap some yogurt for cream cheese, whisk that in here too!
  2. Prepare the Container: Arrange the Graham Crackers (broken into squares/rectangles if needed) upright in your container, leaving about ½-3/4 cm of space between each cracker. Place a few pieces around the edges as well.
  3. Chill and Set: Cover with plastic wrap and keep in the fridge for at least 2 hours, or until fully set. This allows the crackers to soften into a cake-like texture.
  4. Serve: Enjoy it straight from the container!

Top with honey, jam, berry compote, or fresh fruit as desired. Enjoy!!

Tips for the Best Results

Don’t Skip the Chill: Letting it chill for the full 2 hours is crucial. This time allows the graham crackers (or cookies) to absorb moisture from the yogurt, turning them soft and cake-like, which gives it that authentic cheesecake texture!

Use Thick Yogurt: Since we aren’t using cream cheese or baking this, using a very thick Greek yogurt or Skyr is key! If your yogurt is watery, the cheesecake won’t hold its shape as well.

Storage for Healthy Japanese Yogurt Cheesecake

Refrigerator: Store this healthy Japanese yogurt cheesecake tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. It’s best enjoyed cold!
