Make this delicious snack in just 10 minutes with Air Fryer Roasted Edamame, the perfect tasty side dish!

Our local Japanese restaurant always serves roasted edamame as an appetizer while we wait for our main meal to be cooked. It’s one of the perks of going to this restaurant. After our last visit there, I knew I had to make some in the Air Fryer. Air Fryer Edamame is packed with protein, customizable, and perfect for a snack or appetizer!

What are the benefits of Edamame?

Edamame is quick and easy, ready in less than 10 minutes. It’s also full of fiber and protein, plus it’s satisfying. It can easily be switched up to create different flavor profiles using a variety of seasonings. The best part is that it’s a minimal cleanup, only using the air fryer basket and a small bowl! It’s also naturally gluten-free too!

What ingredients do you need for the Air Fryer Edamame Recipe?

  • Edamame
  • Grapeseed Oil Spray
  • Kosher Salt or Seasonings

Step-by-Step Instructions for Air Fryer Edamame:

Find the easy, printable instructions at the bottom of this post.

  1. Place edamame in the air fryer basket; this can be fresh or frozen.
  2. Coat with grapeseed spray and a dash of salt or seasonings of choice.
  3. Air Fry at 390 degrees F for 10 minutes.
  4. Stir halfway through the cooking time if preferred. For a crispy, roasted taste, air fry for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Serve.

Should you use fresh edamame or frozen edamame pods?

Edamame can be purchased either fresh or frozen in the freezer section. We prefer frozen so that we can store it until we are ready to make a batch. The edamame can be put straight from frozen into the air fryer basket. If you choose to let it thaw first, then it can become very soggy, so skip the thawing!

How long do you cook Air Fryer Roasted Edamame?

Cook the edamame at 390 degrees F for 10 minutes, then add 5 minutes if needed to make crispy air fryer edamame. If you are using frozen edamame, this is where your extra time cooking time would be added, it will be cooked perfectly within that additional 5 minutes.

Be sure to place the edamame in a single layer in your air fryer basket. This way, during the cooking process, the air will evenly cook around the edamame. It’s always best to toss it with a little bit of olive oil cooking spray or grapeseed oil cooking spray too, this will get it nice and crispy!

Variations of Roasted Edamame:

Edamame can be seasoned in a variety of ways.

First, even with the air fryer, it’s always good to use an oil spray. Although I do use olive oil spray occasionally, the best one to use is grapeseed oil spray as it has a higher smoke point.

After you have your oil spray, it’s time to add a few different seasonings to give it different flavor profiles.

  • Sea Salt – Just a dash of sea salt is my absolute favorite, along with your oil spray.
  • Red Pepper Chili Flakes – This will give it a spicy kick with red pepper flakes. If you can handle the heat, add the chili flakes!
  • Black Pepper and Lemon Juice – For a savory but not spicy approach, use ground black pepper.
  • Garlic Lovers – Add a sprinkle of garlic powder after cooking.
  • Everything Bagel – Use everything bagel seasoning for a savory twist!

Other options are adding Curry Powder, Garlic Powder, or Onion Powder. These can also add a lot of flavor. There are a variety of ways to season edamame, so choose your favorite!

How do you store cooked leftover edamame?

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. When ready to reheat, heat up in the microwave for 1-2 minutes, or they can be warmed up in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 3-4 minutes.
